چکیده
In time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET), the timing capabilities of scintillation-based detector play an important role. An approach for fast is using so-called metascintillators, which combine two materials leading to synergistic blending their favorable characteristics. added effect BGO-based metascintillators taking advantage better transportation Cherenkov photons through UV-transparent such as plastic (type EJ232). To prove this, we use optimized Coincidence Time Resolution (CTR) setup based on electronic boards with output signals (timing and energy) near-ultraviolet (NUV) vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) from Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), along different coupling materials. As a reference detector, employed 3×3×5 mm3 LYSO:Ce,Ca crystal pixel coupled optical grease NUV-HD SiPM. The evaluation low threshold rise-time, energy time arrival event datasets. Timing results BGO/EJ232 3×3×15 metapixel show Detector Resolutions (DTRs) 159 ps full photopeak. We demonstrate possibility discrimination subsets DTR rise distributions (RTD). Finally, present capability enhance detection when used VUV-sensitive SiPMs.

Controlling Cherenkov radiation with transformation-optical metamaterials.
In high energy physics, unknown particles are identified by determining their mass from the Cherenkov radiation cone that is emitted as they pass through the detector apparatus. However, at higher particle momentum, the angle of the Cherenkov cone saturates to a value independent of the mass of the generating particle, making it difficult to effectively distinguish between different particles. ...
متن کاملCherenkov radiation by neutrinos
We discuss the Cherenkov process ν → νγ in the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field. The neutrinos are taken to be massless with only standard-model couplings. The magnetic field fulfills the dual purpose of inducing an effective neutrino-photon vertex and of modifying the photon dispersion relation such that the Cherenkov condition ω < |k| is fulfilled. For a field strength Bcrit = m 2 e/e...

An example of discontinuity of the energy-momentum tensor moving at superluminal velocity is discussed. It is shown that the gravita-tional Mach cone is formed. The power spectrum of the corresponding Cherenkov radiation is evaluated.
متن کاملReverse surface-polariton cherenkov radiation
The existence of reverse Cherenkov radiation for surface plasmons is demonstrated analytically. It is shown that in a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide, surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) excited by an electron moving at a speed higher than the phase velocity of SPPs can generate Cherenkov radiation, which can be switched from forward to reverse direction by tuning the core thickness of the ...
متن کاملCherenkov radiation of superluminal particles
Any charged particle moving faster than light through a medium emits Cherenkov radiation. We show that charged particles moving faster than light through the vacuum emit Cherenkov radiation. How can a particle move faster than light? The weak speed of a charged particle can exceed the speed of light. By definition, the weak velocity ^v&w is ^C f inuvuC in&/^C f inuC in&, where v is the velocity...
